In 1998 the creative couple Rick van
Dongen and Piety de Jong started Zouthout,
an artists initiative on the Dutch isle
Terschelling.

They search the beach for nice, genuine
pieces of wood, and create exclusive
furniture and accessories of it. Doing that,
they refuse to use the saw where it is not
needed, so all significant details stay intact.

Due to the character of their supplier (the
North Sea), they have to search the beach
frequently and wait till all parts wash ashore
before being able to build their works.
The result is a unique piece, of which there
is no second one in the world. Totally hand
made.
